The eternal rivalry between Lake Como and Lake Garda
Which is the best one to get married? Which one to choose for your wedding?

The Americans do not know Lake Garda, while they are crazy about Lake Como.
Is it only thanks to George Clooney?

The Germans, on the other hand, are crazy about Lake Garda: is it just because of its proximity?

Have you ever heard an American talk about Lake Garda? I absolutely never have.

When an American talks about Italian lakes he only has Lake Como in mind.

Everywhere, both for organised tours (the ones strolling around people with a funny colourful umbrella) and for free holidays.

For months in fact, before launching my business and figuring out how to attract American clients who decide to get married in Italy, I frequented groups (mainly on facebook) of Americans interested in Italy, and no one mentioned Lake Garda

Not only that: my daughter lived in the US for a year and she always tells me that when she told her American friends that she lived on Lake Garda, none of them even knew where it was on a map.
And that’s a real pity, because Lake Garda is a real pearl, a hidden gems of those that we like so much.
With this post today I want to tell you, a foreigner, all the beauty of Lake Garda and above all why you have to stop choosing only Lake Como and maybe get cheated with those high prices.

Today I want to tell you about the main differences between the two lakes but more importantly why you should choose Lake Garda for your wedding.

Lake Como is famous because of George Clooney: I think very few lucky people have been able to see him. most have only dreamed of meeting him wandering around Villa Oleandra. Does that sound like a good reason to go there? surely VIPs who frequent Lake Como know how to avoid and be left alone by fans

Lake Como

Lake Como is close to Milan and therefore very convenient to reach if you land in Milan on your international flight.
You will only need to rent a car and travel to Lake Como fairly quickly.
You are sure to find small villages, romantic landscapes and very expensive villas; we know that Americans like it all but will this be enough for your vacation?
Lake Como offers few beaches, little nightlife, few amusement parks, and it is all quite expensive.
Lake Como’s elite tourism makes it all still quite exclusive, hence expensive.
It is full of jewelry stores, fashionably dressed people, but is that enough to make your vacation memorable? I mean, do you just want to stand at the window and observe, or do you want to have wonderful experiences firsthand during your vacation?
Lake Como is quite similar as a landscape from north to south, beautiful yes but very similar.

Lake Como wedding villas are iconic and therefore extremely expensive.
Brides all over the world dream of an entrance to a villa at Lake Como perhaps arriving by boat, but little do they know that there are equally if not even better solutions at Lake Garda that will leave your guests impressed and amazed!

here’s why you should take into consideration  Lake Garda for your wedding:

Lake Garda is the largest lake in Italy and is strategically located about halfway between Venice and Milan. So convenient if you land at either of these two international airports that have intercontinental flights.

But not only that, Lake Garda has Verona

(VRN) as its main airport. Verona is the city of Romeo and Juliet, one of the absolute most romantic cities in the world, where you can take your guests on excursions perhaps in the days following the ceremony.

So, to recap there are as many as three airports near Lake Garda

Lake Garda is completely different from north to south, which allows you to experience multiple vacations in one by simply moving a few kilometers.
The southern part is flat or barely hilly and very gentle as a landscape. You can also get there by train and it has been a destination for proximity tourism since time immemorial. There are beautiful beaches where you can bathe and regenerate but it is also full of amusement parks ( Gardaland, Caneva Acuapark, Movieland) just to name a few

As we slowly go up north, we encounter amazingly beautiful villages but even here with completely different characteristics from coast to coast: on the east coast it feels like being at the beach with lots of fun, clubs, hotels of all kinds. On the west coast, which is more refined and sophisticated, on the other hand, rise the famous villas that have nothing to envy to those on Lake Como: try to have a look at Villa Feltrinelli, Villa Cavazza on Garda Island, Villa Bettoni that will leave you breathless!

They are all residences of a bygone era, perfectly restored to give their guests unforgettable experiences of affordable luxury.
Affordable compared to the villas on Lake Como, that is!

And what about the small restaurants overlooking the lakefront, romantic yet discreet? here, too, you can get married by arriving comfortably by boat like a true VIP couple: at the Torre San Marco in Gardone, for example, you will make your entrance, elegant from the lake, leaving your guests speechless

As you drive  further north, the mountains become more and more imposing and the narrow road climbs: the Gardesana road here is nothing like the Amalfi coast. The village of Limone sul Garda is unique with its narrow streets, climbing alleys and small eateries with checkered tablecloths and limoncello as long as you like.

Then you get to the top of Lake Garda and there a small plain opens up,surrounded by sheer mountains. This is the area of Riva, devoted to sports since time immemorial, but also graceful and elegant, with exclusive four- and five-star hotels.
and what about Malcesine, the small village dominated by the Scaliger Castle where so many romantic weddings are celebrated almost every day? where one can choose to celebrate the event on a sailing ship built in the early 1900s? and going further down, toward Bardolino one can celebrate one’s wedding at the Venetian Customs House, a 14th century building overlooking the lake.

And what about Sirmione, its enchanted castle, its thermal baths, its world-famous cobbled alleys, and its world-famous little square with wisteria flowers?

Prices for getting married on Lake garda are significantly lower than those on Lake Como, but that is simply because it is less well-known to American brides and grooms and beyond Europe.
while on the other hand other nations such as the Germans, the British and the Irish who know it well, do golden business getting married with the same beautiful backdrop but spending less (even for their own guests)
Did you know, for example, that on Lake Garda, there is a very chic 4-star sup hotel that you can rent out in its entirety to celebrate with just your family and friends? Just imagine a fabulous villa, completely renovated, with a jaw-dropping terrace overlooking the lake, very elegant waiters and food just for you, a candlelight party for around €15,000 for about 20 people.

Fantastic isn’t it? That’s only for the fall season, but already imagining it gives me chills.
